Day 1: Famous route to Borobudur & Prambanan
In the morning we will pick you up, to first visit the Borobudur and then the Prambanan. The Borobudur looms out of a patchwork of heavenly green ricefields. This colossal Buddhist monument has survived 1200 years of natural disasters. It probably still is as beautiful as it must have been when it was built. The mystical temples of Prambanan are set in the plains. They are the best remaining examples of Java’s Hindu culture.

Day 2: Dieng Plateau
Rediscoverd in the 19th century, the lofty volcanic plateau of Dieng is a fertile landscape and home to more than 400 Hindu squat simple temples, though of archeological imporatance. Dieng’s beautiful scenery is the main reason to make the long journey to this isolated region. Wake up early as at 05.00 you will be picked up. It takes about three hours to arrive via a scenic winding road at the Dieng Plateau. You will visit the temple complex Arjuna.
Around 12:30 you will have lunch (not included). After lunch the three colored lake is on your program. Then of to see the volcano being active at Kawah Sikidang. Before heading back to Yogyakarta you can see a documentary about the Dieng Plateau. On route you can taste local traditional food.

Day 3: Yogyakarta city tour and Parangtritis beach
Today enjoy Yogyakarta's rich history and experience it's cultural legacy. Visit the Sultan's palace, Taman Sari water castle, Malioboro street, silver city, fort Vredeburg, and much more.
If time is sufficient, you can also visit the white sandy beach Parangtritis.
At midnight the Malabar train to Malang departs, first class seats.
Discovery ideas: if you aren't that kind of person to discover cities and/or beaches, we can adjust the program. Volcano Merapi might be more of your choice? What about Kalibaru National Park, sand dunes at Gumuk Pasir Parangkusumo, Ratu Boko Palace, Ullen Sentalu museum....?
Hotel: you spend the night in the train
Day 4: Malang city tour
Malang moves at leisurely pace, a city with a village atmosphere. The city is home to a large student population. The central area is not too large and actually walkable.
You arrive at 08:15 in Malang after the first class Bima train departed at 00:52 in Yogyakarta. Get off the train at Malang's second train station. We will pick you up at the train station and bring you by becak to your hotel. Drop your things, take a hot shower and a leisurely juice. Then head into the city. When one of our students is available, you can have a cozy student guided city tour.
Discovery ideas: Badut temple, kampong Jodipan - also known under the name kampong Warna-Warni, Chinese temple, Malang's town square with more than a few historical buildings, the Arab kampong.... Or take a village or city tour by bike

Day 5: Bromo sunrise tour
Midnight departure. Via the savanna to Pananjakan. At Pananjakan you have time for a hot cup of coffee or tea. Might be welcoming as the temperature varies between 0º and 10º Celsius. Once used to the temperature, you can choose you spot on the viewpoint which is a 2 min walk from the local small restaurant.
All you have to do is wait and see. The volcanic activity and weather conditions order the colors in the sky. Sunrise.... On clear nights mount Semeru - the highest mountain and active volcano in Java - is also visible.
After the sun has warmed at least your skin, you can meet your driver. He will drive you as near to mount Bromo as possible. You will cross the black volcanic Sea of Sand and park near Luhur Poten temple. You will need about 45 min to hike to the crater rim of mount Bromo. It isn't a difficult hike. But take your time to look behind you, views are stunning and change at least every 5 minutes. Take your time.
Your Jeep driver is waiting for you. He will bring you back to your hotel to have breakfast. After breakfast you can check out. Your tour continues to Bondowoso city.

Day 6: Hike Ijen crater lake
Another early morning. Around 04.00 your will depart for Paltuding from where you start hiking to the Ijen crater lake (Kawah Ijen). The famous green-blueish colored and most acidic lake on earth!
You will meet the sulphur miners wheeling down their harvest after early hard work. Sulphur miners collect the solidified sulphur at the end of ceramic pipes. The miners chop off the sulphur and load the chops in their bamboo baskets. Loads as heavy as 80 kg then will be carried on their shoulders up the crater rim. At the crater rim, the sulphur is reloaded on a trolley.
Take your time at this enchanting Ijen crater lake... Oversee the area, take a walk, sit and relax to fully grasp your surroundings.
If you feel it is time to hike back, your driver is waiting at the parking area. You will have to leave the lake at the latest by 14:00, due to the release of toxic gasses by the volcano.
Once back at the parking area, don't forget to visit the sulphur weighing area. Sulphur is collected, weighed and brought by truck to the sulphur factory in Licin village.
Then you will be dropped in be dropped at the harbor in Ketapang to catch the ferry to Bali.
