Hike to the top of the highest mountain in Java
Day 1: Surabaya Tumpang Ranupane
Our guide picks you up at the Juanda Airport or in your hotel in Surabaya. We drive to Tumpang. That might take around 2,5 hours. In Tumpang we change cars. We continue to Ranupane by Jeep, where we stay for the night in Ranupane Homestay.
Day 2: Ranupane Ranu Gumbolo Kalimati
After breakfast we leave for our first day of hiking. We walk through the tropical rainforest at the foot of Mt Semeru to Ranu Kumbolo. That might take three to four hours. There we have a break for lunch. Hereafter we continue trekking for another three to four hours to Kalimati Campsite. After arriving in the campsite and putting up the tents for the night, the guides will prepare your dinner. You just lay back and enjoy the view.
Day 3: Kalimati Mt Semeru Ranu Gumbolo
We wake you early in the morning to climb to the summit of Mt Semeru (3,676 m) before the sun rises. It will take another two and a half hours walking. At the top you watch the astonishing sunrise. If the sky is clear you can see the seas north and south of Java. After everybody is set to go, we descend to the camping site in Kalimati, to have our breakfast. Our next goal is hiking back to Ranupane followed by Ranu Gumbolo where we spent another night in a tent.
Day 4: Ranu Gumbolo Ranu Pane Cemaralawang
After breakfast we return to Ranu Pane. Its a two to three hours hike over Mt Ayek Ayek. In Ranu Pane lunch is waiting for us, where after we continue by jeep to Cemaralawang. We spent the night either in Hotel Cemara Indah or Hotel Lava View.
Day 5: Cemaralawang Mt Pananjakan Mt Bromo Surabaya
In the morning we wake you at 03.30. After youve get dressed, we leave for Mt Pananjakan, which is with its 2.702 m the highest view point in the surrounding. At Mt Pananjakan we will drink some coffee or tea. Hereafter we guide you to the sand sea that you will have to cross (walking or on horseback) before you climb the stairs leading to the crater of Mt Bromo. After your return to the car it will be around 09.00 am and drive you back to the hotel for breakfast. Then we return either to the airport or another destination according to your whishes.
